Kirsten Rian is a widely published as an essayist and poet. She is the author of a book of poetry, Chord (forthcoming, 2013) and an anthology of Sierra Leonean poetry, Kalashnikov in the Sun (Pika Press, 2010); and co-author of the anthology, Walking Bridges Using Poetry as a Compass (Urban Adventure Press). She is the author of the weekly column “The Alphabet of Light” for Daylight Magazine, and is the poetry editor at The Oregonian. She is the recipient of a 2013 Artist Fellowship in Nonfiction from the Oregon Arts Commission. She has been awarded writing residencies through Literary Arts, Multnomah County Library, and Soapstone, among others. She teaches throughout the region. Also an independent curator and writer, Rian has coordinated more than 375 exhibitions and served as picture editor or writer for 80 books and catalogues
