James Fleming is a retired Portland police detective and street sergeant. He is the first editor and publisher of The Rap Sheet, the union publication for the Portland Police Association & OR Council of Police Associations. He acquired an interest in poetry through a class given by Vi Gale at the YMCA. He is the author of two books of poetry, You Wouldn’t Know Us from Press-22 and Heaven Bound, which was a combined effort with the Newport, OR painter Sandy Roumagoux. His recent chapbook from Stone City Press is The Zen of Wood Chopping. Fleming is also past president of the Oregon State Poetry Association and the Portland Poetry Festival.
